blissful silence in the library.
Oh how I missed my campus and its numerous libraries. I’ve even missed Robarts, of which many of my friends consider the giant fourteen-floored concrete peacock to be the most desolate and depressing of all the libraries on campus (though ironically enough, it’s still by far the most popular place for students to study). 美心冰皮月餅/Maxim’s Snowy Mooncake
Starting in August, It’s always an annual excitement to see mooncakes stacked neatly onto displays in every single Chinese supermarket that I enter. 中秋節 (Mid-Autumn Festival) is just around the corner - September 12th!
I dearly missed this festival last year, not only because I was away from family, but I also missed my more or less annual tradition of buying mooncakes, of which I begun purchasing the 冰皮 (snowy) versions, which are lighter than the traditional egg yolk and lotus paste ones. Sadly enough, they were not available in Paris… I do hope to get the chance this year to buy some and eat them though — perhaps I will eat an extra mooncake or two to make up for last year’s loss!

My earliest memory of this drink actually isn’t attributed to some sort of diner-esque eating establishment, but of a local McDonald’s. It was sold in one size (large) and from what I remember, three flavours (vanilla, strawberry, chocolate). I remember it being more like a giant cup of ice cream, as it was rather thick and you could really only consume it with a spoon… the straw that they provided was quite useless…
